Walking on Broken Glass

Walking On Broken Glass / Fear - No Fear

Our working concept: within one’s frame of mind, how difficult or easy is it to face the fear of walking on broken glass...to become victorious over the broken glass and that fear. It was made very easy with proper preparation. Our model wasn’t ‘walking’ and it wasn’t ‘glass’. A difficult situation was no longer a problem.

We set our model upon our support system rig, which placed her at adjustable heights to the broken glass on our tabletop. This allowed her to apply pressure to the faux glass at numerous angles, giving me the freedom to sculpt the glass shards around her feet. I had full mobility by having a wireless App on my iPad for my camera system.

The ‘faux’ glass was made of silicone plastic. It’s for safety when objects or people go crashing through. This ‘stage’ glass is made of either a candy mixture or silicone. Since I was shooting a close-up, I wanted the better glass-like detail that the plastic would provide. During the styling and breaking the sheets of faux glass prior to the shoot, it was most apparent that the inherent detail of ‘green’ edges wasn’t there. The edges were clear...well, it was plastic. That was easily remedied by coming back in post with Photoshop to detail all the exposed edges in green.

I also took several shots of the broken glass ‘sans’ feet using various
points of selective focus.  I was able to lift individual pieces and small sections of in-focus and out-of-focus glass from these extra photos and add them to the final composition. The tabletop surface was a shiny gold foil to give slight warmth to the scene.

Fear isn’t all one thinks it is...it’s all how you see it and deal with it.
