Look…Up In The Sky! It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane!
No, It’s Don Levey Dancing for his Friends!
This month, Behind the Camera, is going to shed light on a self-promotional that our studio sent out a short while ago. The caption for our passionate, stylized photo is, “Don Levey Dances for his Friends.” The idea is spawned from a beautiful copper etching, called “Bailo Para Mis Amigos”, given to me by a friend. Translated, it means, “I dance for my friends”. You see, my client and friend was witness to my desire to deliver the best possible photos imaginable.
The two dancers are doing the tango, arguably the most passionate dance one can do, above the camera on a 1” thick piece of clear Plexiglas. The flower our lady is holding was a replacement rose, taken from a different part of our shoot, worked into the photo in post. The flower petals that are falling were photographed separately, from beneath the Plexiglas. The motion of the rose petals and our lady’s right foot pivoting was styled in Photoshop. Our dramatic night sky was created using the Glitterato portion of the Flaming Pear plug-in filter. We thought the addition of color to the clouds in the night sky would nicely blend the overall feel of our photo. We decided to also remove all branding from our lady’s high heels, as well as the black ribbed rubber from our gentleman’s shoes. The toilet paper was in the actual shot, although we decided to extend its length by several inches, which helps balance that portion of our photo.
The idea for the original promo came from the beautiful etching given for my passion. My passion has never waned. And I’m also faster than a speeding bullet and I can bend steel with my bare hands.
